“His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father”
Isaiah 9:6
The role of the father is to provide for and protect his children and family. Isaiah prophesying of the coming Child, the Messiah, to be born, said that He will be a King who will be a father to Israel. But we know that extends to all who come into the family of God, He is their Father. But not just Father but Everlasting Father and since He is the Everlasting Father His role as Provider and Protector is not limited by time, age or death, it will continue into all eternity.
I don’t know about you but that is the kind of father I want. Many of you are probably like me who had a father who neglected to protect or provide for you and your siblings. So it is welcomed and comforting news to know that this Child will be the (not an) Everlasting Father – One who will perform the duties of a Father for you in the present and throughout all eternity.
So let’s celebrate and embrace the One who is the Everlasting Father! Hallelujah
