What’s in a Name? – King of the Jews

“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

Matthew 2:1-2

Imagine what it was like for several men to leave the comfort of their homes and family and travel for many, many miles following a star looking for the King of the Jews – Jesus.  No wonder they are called wise men. The wise are the ones who pursue Jesus.

Not knowing any better they went to King Herod to inquire about the whereabouts of this new King. Of course, Herod did not know so “…when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.” So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: “But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.” Matthew 2:2:4-6.

Points to Ponder

The Wisemen followed the star; the Jewish scholars followed the Scripture.

The Wisemen knew the ‘when’ the Jewish scholars knew the ‘where’.

There are ‘wisemen’ of our day who are seeing signs in the heavens and they are going to come to us seeking and asking, “Where is He, our King”. Please don’t let them have to go to a Herod.

The Wisemen had a limited revelation of who Jesus was; He is not just the King of the Jews, but KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!

Is He the King of your life?
